Ownership & Funding

Who Owns and Operates HogaToga
HogaToga is an independently owned technology publication. It was founded in 2022 and is operated by the same editorial team that produces its content. There is no parent corporation, media conglomerate, or external investor with ownership or control over HogaToga’s editorial output. Decisions about what to cover, how to cover it, and what conclusions to draw are made by the editorial team under the direction of Editor-in-Chief Jonathan Garcia — not by any commercial partner, funder, or platform.
HogaToga is not owned by or affiliated with any hardware manufacturer, software company, app developer, mobile carrier, or gaming platform. This independence is structural: the publication has no equity relationship with any company it covers.
How HogaToga Earns Revenue
HogaToga is a free publication supported by two clearly identified revenue streams:
Display and Contextual Advertising
HogaToga displays advertising on its pages. Advertising inventory is sold through third-party ad networks and, in some cases, directly to advertisers. Advertising placements are labelled as advertisements. Purchasing advertising on HogaToga does not entitle an advertiser to editorial coverage, a positive review, a product recommendation, or any editorial consideration whatsoever. The separation between advertising sales and editorial decision-making is maintained as a structural rule, not a courtesy. Advertisers and advertising account managers have no access to the editorial calendar, no advance notice of review verdicts, and no ability to request changes to published content.
Affiliate Links
Some articles on HogaToga contain affiliate links — links to products or services through which HogaToga may earn a commission if a reader makes a purchase. Affiliate links are disclosed clearly in every article that contains them, at the top of the piece. Our Affiliate Disclosure page lists the affiliate programmes we participate in and explains how they work.
Affiliate relationships do not determine which products we recommend. We recommend products based on our testing and editorial judgement. When a recommended product happens to be available through an affiliate link, we use that link and disclose it. We do not recommend products because of affiliate commission rates, and we do not withhold negative assessments from products for which we hold affiliate relationships.
What HogaToga Does Not Accept
HogaToga does not accept payment for editorial coverage. This means no sponsored reviews presented as independent editorial, no pay-to-rank placement in best-of lists, no "native advertising" that mimics editorial content without clear labelling, and no coverage in exchange for gifts or access. Sponsored content, where it is published, is clearly and permanently labelled as sponsored. It is subject to the same factual accuracy requirements as editorial content and must comply with our Ethics Policy, including the no-scam-content rule.
Advertising Revenue and Editorial Independence
Advertising revenue is necessary for HogaToga to operate. We do not pretend otherwise. But the fact that advertising funds our operation does not give advertisers editorial power. The firewall between revenue and editorial exists because our readers’ trust is the only thing that makes the publication valuable in the first place. A publication that adjusts its coverage to please advertisers eventually stops being useful to readers — and stops being worth advertising in. The independence is in our own interest as much as it is a matter of principle.
For detail on how this independence is maintained day-to-day, see our Ethics Policy. For the full framework governing how we write and edit, see our Affiliate Disclosure and the information on our Advertise page.
